Mechanisms of mental disorders across the life span

Behavioral and Clinical Neuroscience

We strive to identify ways how to translate the increasing scientific and methodological advances from basic experimental research on memory, attention and other cognitive processes into more effective treatment and patient-centered care. As an example of this multi-dimensional approach, we work on the implementation and modification of interventions grounded in basic research on emotional memory (e.g., autobiographical episodic memory and classical conditioning) to treat anxiety and addictive behaviors. State-of-the-art techniques (e.g., cross-species behavioural testing, psychopharmacological manipulations, genetic approaches and neurochemical analysis) are used to improve and expedite the transmission of basic research to more efficient therapy interventions.
