Mental Health Research and Treatment Center (FBZ)
Welcome to the Mental Health Research and Treatment Center at Ruhr University Bochum. Since 2013, we have combined research, teaching, and practice under one roof—so that anyone with mental health problems can receive targeted help.
Our vision is to provide the best possible care in the field of mental health throughout someone's whole life. In their lifetime, one in two people will suffer from a mental disorder that should be treated. This is where our offer comes in: in our university outpatient clinics, children, adolescents, and adults with mental health problems or disorders receive treatment based on the latest international research. Every year, we help over 3,000 people with problems across the spectrum of mental disorders.
At the same time, we research the causes of mental illness and wellbeing. We investigate how psychological, biological, and social factors interact. We use the results to improve our therapeutic practices. Thanks to the support of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and other third-party donors, the Center has a comprehensive infrastructure for our studies. These include the programs for Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy and Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology with the associated postgraduate training programs for adult psychotherapy and child and adolescent psychotherapy.
Our research results are available to scholars around the world as much as possible in the form of Open Access Materials. Additionally, we share our results with students and future therapists as we consider the training of young people an important component of our work.
