Behavioral and Clinical Neuroscience
Our lab is dedicated to interdisciplinary research. Focused on both basic translational research and clinical research, our mission is to improve the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders.
In our basic translational research projects, we address problems with learning and memory, emotion, motivation, and attention. We combine various methodologies including behavioral, genetic, pharmacological, and neurochemical approaches to assess the respective processes. In a reverse translational approach we further examine how findings from the clinical research in patients and humans can be used to inform and generate new animal models of mental disorders.
Our clinical research aims to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms that are responsible for the development, progression and chronification of mental disorders, such as addiction, affective and anxiety disorders. Findings from our basic and clinical research is used to optimize and refine conventional treatment approaches, as well as to develop novel, e.g., learning and memory based, treatment programs to reduce the patients suffering, symptom intensity and also to prevent relapses.
